Non-Profit Spotlight: 91 Place

Blogpost by Spencer Ruark – Member of Kirk Realty Team & Board Member of 91 Place

Real Estate is a complicated industry. Every Realtor is able to shape and build their business however they see fit. As a result, the industry itself is not monolithic. Just as there are many ways to interact with real estate as a consumer (renter, homeowner, investor, developer, etc.), there are many ways to be a Realtor.

I learned early on that for this job to be a good fit, relationships would have to be the engine that kept the car of my career running. My desire has never been to scale my business to a massive level but instead to use the time I have available to give myself to meaningful work. Caring for people and our city well, especially amidst all of the rapid development and growth, continues to feel like the most meaningful work for me. This value of caring well for people and place is fundamental to who the Kirk Realty Team is and what motivates us.

This commitment of giving my time to real estate work – with the goal of caring for people and place – had led me to connecting with 91 Place a little under a year ago. 91 Place is a transitional housing program for house-less youth (ages 17-22). The organization currently has one home and houses four youth but is expanding in the next 6-12 months to have three homes AND a therapy center on Indy’s Near Eastside.

This exciting expansion will allow 91 Place to provide housing and support for even more youth, but there are currently 21 people on the wait-list, so there is even more work to do. Kirk Realty Team is sponsoring 91 Place’s fundraiser this Fall which is aimed at raising funds for 91 Place’s operating costs — groceries, staff salaries, etc.

It’s an honor to be able to serve 91 Place as they expand their impact, and I’m thankful to have the Kirk Realty Team standing alongside me in support.
